Kelly's Story
"For the first time in my life, I had someone who believed in me, stayed beside me and celebrated my successes. That gave me the confidence to believe in myself."
A Childhood without stability

Kelly's childhood was shaped by uncertainty. After two adoptions broke down before she was eight, she spent the rest of her childhood moving between foster homes and residential care. By the time she arrived in supported housing at 16, she had experienced more loss and rejection than most people face in a lifetime.Despite everything, Kelly remained kind, hopeful and held onto one dream: one day she wanted to work in a bridal shop.
Learning to trust
Kelly found it hard to trust adults and worried people would always leave. Through patience, consistency and genuine care, her support worker slowly earned that trust. For the first time, Kelly had someone who listened, encouraged her and remained a constant in her life. As their relationship grew, so did her confidence to share her experiences and ask for help.
Finding Courage to speak up
Soon after moving into supported housing, Kelly and several other young people became targets of a grooming gang. Because she trusted her support worker, Kelly found the courage to speak out. She was the only young person to come forward and worked with the police to help protect others from further harm. Her bravery changed lives and showed the strength she had always carried within her.
Growing in Confidence

Supported housing gave Kelly far more than practical life skills. She achieved her Maths and English qualifications, built healthy friendships and grew in confidence. Most importantly, she experienced something she had never known before: a trusted adult who celebrated her successes, supported her through challenges and helped her believe in herself.
Finding her dream
After moving on, Kelly stayed in touch with the team. One day, she shared the news she had dreamed of since childhood. She had secured a job in a bridal shop. For Kelly, it was more than just employment. It was proof that her past did not define her future. With the right support, stability and belief, she had achieved a dream she had carried with her through even the hardest times.
